I’ve been flying since 2010, I got Into flying STOL in August of 2018 after taking the Bush-Air Advanced flying course with CC Pocock. The following May I flew to Valdez Alaska to Compete in the Valdez STOL Competition where I somehow landed 2nd Place in the Light Touring Class. The Aircraft I’m flying is my 1955 Cessna Super 170B which was a barn find that had been sitting since the mid 90s. A friend and I went through the aircraft, put in fresh fuel then I flew it home where it received lots of financial love to become the STOL beast it is today. I call her “The Dirty Bird” because it was one hell of a dirty bird when we drug it out of the barn to fly it home.

Earned my Tailwheel endorsement in a Fairchild PT-19 in 2002 and I have enjoyed the conventional gear since then. I flew many different tailwheel aircraft over the years and found I’m a Legend Cub pilot for life once I flew MOAC the first time. I love sitting in the back seat of a cub teaching tailwheel and seaplane when I’m not at my small town chiropractic office. Since I started flying, I would earn a new rating instead of doing flight reviews and before I knew it all there was left is the CFI ticket. Now a CFII and MEI in land and sea, there is not much I don’t enjoy instructing in. If I’m not in a Legend Cub you’ll catch me flying fast and non-stop pretty much anywhere in my Bonanza with 100gal tip tanks and 2,800 mile range.

Seth Lake is a 12 year veteran of the US Air Force, where he flew the Lockheed C-130J. Seth cut his teeth flying combat airlift in Afghanistan, delivering over 1 million pounds of cargo via airdrop and unimproved landing zones. Seth finished his career in the Active Duty Air Force, teaching combat tactics and assault landings to the next generation of C-130 pilots. Although landing a 150,000 lb, four-engine turboprop on a gravel runway in the Hindu Kush at night while on NVGs and being shot at isn’t the same as flying his pre-War Taylorcraft, he can do both well.

I live and work on our family farm in Exeter Maine. We grow potatoes under contract for Frito Lay. I’ve been doing this since 1982. We ship potatoes to the largest potato chip plant in the world. If you eat he lays or ruffles in New England between August and June chances are I had some to do with it.

Last May I won the New England STOL contest in New York while flying this Carbon Cub.

I’ve had several planes over the years since my dad taught me to fly when I was 20, but I really settled on the Cubcrafters products. They’re a great company great people and great product. My wife Brenda and I are lucky to have three great kids, seven grandkids
And live and work on the farm that we built. We spent a bit of time in Florida in the winter, Flying the cub and having some fun.

As I approach the end of my 36 year airline career I decided that I wanted to get into general aviation Aircraft for my retirement and the back country aspect of it specifically. I located the Cessna in northern Michigan, it was a one owner airplane. The restoration then began and as with most things in general aviation one thing led to another that led to another. A Big thanks to all of my friends for their patience and help while this project was underway. Now we can all go fly together and enjoy good times with friends and family.

Born in Alpine, Texas, Levi Attended High School at the Marine Military Academy in Harlingen, TX. After graduation from high school he attended the US Naval Academy for two years and then joined the US Marine Corp. As a Marine, he served in the 3rd Reconnaissance Battalion and 1st Force Reconnaissance Company as a Para Scuba Recon Marine and attended the US Army Special Operations Course. In 1992 he transferred to the US Army to attend the Warrant Officer Candidate School and Initial entry Rotary Wing course. He subsequently served in the Army as a Helicopter and Fixed wing pilot and Instructor Pilot flying UH-1 ( Huey), C-12, RC-12, and UC-35 (Cessna Citation) aircraft until he retired as a CW3 in 2006. He has flown as a Contract ISR instructor pilot and Flight Standardization Manager with Avenge Inc. and MAG Aero since 2008, where he flies modified King Air. He has approximately 12,000 hours total time in much larger and more powerful aircraft, but he loves the simplicity of flying the Kitfox. He says in the Kitfox, the the check list is short, the take-off run is short, the landing distance is short, and the speed is slow, but the fun is fast and lasts a long time. The FUN meter stays pegged at the red line.

Darin Hart is the owner of American Legend Aircraft located in Sulphur Springs, Texas. He has over 35 years of flying experience, most enjoying his time in a Cub. Appreciating the ability to fly low and slow, the cub allows him to land or take off in places where most airplanes can’t. American Legend Aircraft was founded expressly to develop a light sport version of the venerable Piper Cub airplane. From the outset, it was determined that these beloved aircraft were so pure in their design and so honest in their handling, that something had to be done to keep them flying. Today, Darin is flying in Legend Aircraft’s latest model, MOAC, short for “Mother of All Cubs”. MOAC is a Super Legend XP (extra performance) with a Titan IOX 370 fuel injected 195HP. The XP comes equipped with extended flap area, a larger rudder, and 40 gallons of fuel. MOAC is flying with a 86×40 Catto propeller. The turtle-deck allows for easy access to baggage with 85″ of length, room enough for a sleeping bag and 1 camper. There is a fold-down, rear side window for access to a 3rd seat! MOAC has 31″ tundra tires with 10″ wheels, a TK1 main-gear suspension system and an Alaskan baby tundra tail wheel with T3 dual spring suspension. Moac’s empty weight is 1,062lbs with a gross weight of 2,000lbs.

LTC(p) Matthew Peterson is the Airport Director of Feliciana Airpark and mere years from retirement. His 1957 C172 “The Intruder” is famous among Young Eagles, Scouts tracking dogs and MPs all over the lower 48.
